Supply of premix fuel to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) involved in the illegal diversion of the products has been ceased by the National Premix Fuel Committee as part of measures being taken to end such acts. The unnamed OMCs as well as some landing beach committees and transporters have been accused of not delivering the premix fuel they lift from the Tema Oil Refinery to the desired destination. The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has since January 2017 cited over 230 cases of premix fuel diversion in the country. A joint statement issued by the Energy Ministry, Ministry of Fisheries and…
A mind-bending optical illusion during a dark storm has confused the internet. The video taken from a car travelling through a long stretch of road in Queensland was posted online to Reddit – but users have pointed out something very peculiar. The camera pans across dark, rolling clouds in the middle of a thunderstorm in Mackay, north Queensland. However it is not the ethereal beauty of an inky tempest which captured the attention of viewers. As the video camera moves from the right side of the sky, a strange reflection in the clouds can be seen. Two hands clutching a…

A member of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Gyamfi, says the failure of government to so far prosecute any former government official is because it has no evidence of corruption whatsoever against anyone. According to him, prior to the election of President Nana Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party made zealous corruption allegations against government officials under the John Mahama administration. “They called us thieves, now Ghanaians give you the opportunity to rule only for you to tell us you have used eleven months to investigate. What is happening now shows they didn’t have any evidence,” he said on the newspaper…
A 56-year-old driver who admitted in court to defiling and impregnating his 15-year-old house help has made a shocking U-turn in the case. Kwasi Akuffo had on October 11, 2017pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge of defilement before the court presided by Mr Aboagye Tandoh who was then a relieving judge. However when Akuffo appeared before the substantive judge, Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, on Monday, defence counsel, Mr George Asamaney, prayed the court for Akuffo’s plea to be retaken and facts re-read. He argued that would enable all parties in the matter to take note. The court then obliged…

South Africa’s corruption watchdog has found officials misused millions of dollars during Nelson Mandela’s funeral four years ago. According to the report, 300m rand ($22m; £16m) was redirected from a development fund to help with costs. It had been earmarked for things like “sanitation, the replacement of mud schools and the refurbishment of hospitals,” the report stated. Instead, the authorities allegedly spent it on items like $24 T-shirts. Allegations of misuse first emerged in 2014, months after Mr Mandela’s funeral in Qunu, Eastern Cape, in December 2013, which was attended by heads of state from around the world. Now, nearly…
The US Supreme Court has ruled President Donald Trump’s travel ban on six mainly Muslim countries can go fully into effect. Seven of the nine justices granted the administration’s request to lift injunctions imposed by lower courts. But the directive against travellers from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen still faces legal challenges. The ruling covers the third version of President Trump’s controversial policy that he has issued since taking office. The presidential proclamation also imposed restrictions on travellers from North Korea and some Venezuelan government officials. Those provisions have already been approved by lower courts. In striking down…
The leadership of Parliament has stressed the need for the citizenry to develop in-depth knowledge of their legislative functions. “In most cases, Members of Parliament (MPs) have been unnecessarily misunderstood and attacked for not championing the cause of socio-economic development in their constituencies,” Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, noted. Addressing a ‘Parliamentary Constituency Forum’ at Asante-Bekwai, in the Ashanti Region, he said the rate of “ignorance” about the core functions of parliamentarians amongst the average Ghanaian was worrying. “The august house has over the years lost some very experienced and knowledgeable personalities as their…
