Deputy Trade and Industry Minister, Robert Ahomka-Lindsay, is being accused of perjury over his claim that the Komenda Sugar Factory has never fully processed raw sugarcane. A Ghanaian philanthropist has started a campaign to repaint police stations, psychiatric hospitals and special schools across the country as his widow’s mite to giving those institutions facelift. As a first step, Julius Atsu Yawlui, popularly known as Julius Mugabe, has repainted the offices of the Adentan-Abokobi Divisional Police Headquarters in Accra at the cost of GHC26,680. Many young Africans drawn to extremist groups know “little to nothing” about religious texts and interpretations, a UN study has found. The survey, the first of its kind in Africa, profiled nearly 500 voluntary recruits to militant groups including al-Shabab and Boko Haram. Finding a job is “the most acute need at the time of joining a group,” the report finds. It also points to government action as a “tipping point”. Two motorbike accident victims, who had their legs amputated at the Central Regional Hospital in Winneba under what they termed questionable circumstances, are demanding a probe into the matter.
