The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to be candid on the implementation of the “Free Senior High School” policy which takes effect today Monday. According to the NDC, parents of SHS students in Forms 2 and 3 are angry at the government for deceiving them: the thinking was that continuing students would be covered under the policy. Licencing examination of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana will from July next year be conducted online. The new online system, according to the Council, is to ease the laborious processes associated with the manual system, as well as strengthen the examination capacity of the council. Registrar of the Council, Felix Nyante, announced this at the Council’s 2017 mid-year review at Nsuta in the Ashanti region. The Standing Committee of the People’s National Congress (PNC) has agreed on an early congress for the party as part of its preparation towards the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections. The Old Parliament House, opposite the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra, is being pulled down to pave the way for a new one to be constructed at a cost GH¢15 million. The amount is part of the budgetary allocation of GH¢37,816,401 approved by Parliament for the implementation of the activities and programs of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ). Minority leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has lauded Akufo-Addo’s flagship education programme, the Free Senior High School, which is set offer total free education to all second cycle students in public institutions from this academic year.
