Members of Parliament from the Brong Ahafo Region are set to meet over threats of xenophobic attack by a group of people at Banda who are claiming foreigners have taken over their jobs.
According to the MPs, they spoke about the issue at their level and that prompted the National Security and the Interior Ministry to move in to save the situation, noting they will soon meet again to decide on the action to take on the issue.
A group calling itself Concern Members of Banda Ahenkro issued public notices that it intends visiting mayhem on those foreigners; akin to the largely condemned xenophobic attacks in South Africa on persons it considered strangers in the area.
The group accused non-indigenes of taking over all available jobs in the area.
Most schools, health facilities among other government agencies have been closed following the threats which caused non indigenes to flee the town for fear of their lives.
Speaking on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene hosted by Nana Yaw Opare on Thursday, the Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Henry Yeboah Yiadom-Boachie said it was sad that such thing was happening in the town.
“We are all one nation and we can live in all towns,” he said, and described the threat as unnecessary.
Mr. Yiadom-Boachie said the MPs in the region is yet to meet over the matter but they have already spoken about it at various meetings.
“Our move has brought the National Security and Interior Minister to move in and salvage the threat”.
