The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedinam Ationu Tamakloe, who was extradited fromnthe USA to face her jail term, has been acquitted and discharged by the Court of Appeal.
Her lawyers had filed an appeal against the High Court ruling of 2024.
According to Thursday’s ruling, the prosecution failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the essential elements of the charges brought against her at the High Court.
After proceedings, the lawyers expressed gratitude to the courts for their “erudite reasoning” to acquit and discharge their client.
The former MASLOC CEO had been charged with conspiracy, wilfully causing financial loss to the state amounting to more than GH¢90 million, and stealing during her tenure.
In 2024, she was sentenced in absentia to 10 years’ imprisonment after failing to appear before the court for trial.
She was extradited to Ghana last month ostensibly to start her prison term.
