President Nana Akufo-Addo has paid tribute to former chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Dr Kwabena Adjei, who died in Accra Tuesday, describing him as a friend but formidable opponent with strong opinions.
Nana Akufo-Addo who served with Dr Adjei in the second parliament under the fourth republic posted of the politician-cum-academician as “Man of strong opinions, he was a formidable opponent, and I enjoyed very much our interactions”.
The President described the demise of Dr Adjei as sad, and recounted how he gave “good leadership” to parliament when he was the majority leader.
“His relationship with our “boss”, the late, great JH Mensah, then Minority Leader, provided a big boost for the work of Parliament and for the advancement of our democracy,” Nana Akufo-Addo said in the Facebook post.
He expressed his condolences to the family of the late politician and the NDC, adding “he will be missed”.
The 76-year-old died while receiving medical care for an undisclosed sickness that is said to have prolonged.
Until his demise, he was a member of the NDC Council of Elders, a former Member of Parliament for Biakoye, a former PNDC Deputy Secretary for Volta Region and former PNDC Deputy Secretary for Industries, Science & Technology.
He also served as a Former Minister for Lands & Forestry, Former Minister for Food & Agriculture and Former Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in the 4th Republic.
Meanwhile, national executives of the party have directed all party flags to fly at half-mast and declared three days of mourning for Dr Kwabena Adjei who died in Accra at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
“On behalf of the party, the Functional Executive Committee takes this opportunity to convey our deepest and heartfelt condolence to the family of Dr. Kwabena Adjei. May his gentle soul Rest in Perfect Peace,” a statement from the party said.
