Members of the parliamentary press corps have been urged by the leadership of Parliament to properly study the Standing Orders of the house to enable them report accurately.
Engaging the press corps in parliamentary proceedings, the Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was concerned about how Parliament can work closely with the press since they are in the same enterprise of serving the interest of Ghanaians.
He promised that both the Speaker and the leadership of the house will also support the media in the discharge of their duty.
The Majority Leader assured the media that the Joe Ghartey report on bribery allegation will be placed before Parliament.
Touching on the Right to Information Bill, the Majority Leader indicated that since the 6th Parliament has been dissolved, there is the need for the 7th Parliament to re-lay it.
According to him, there were so many amendments needed to be made on the bill that the 6th Parliament could not do.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu noted that even when his side was the Minority in Parliament, it was committed to passing the bill, but the House could not pass it because it contained errors that are not expedient to be made law.
Speaking with the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu said they will ensure that even committee meetings are attended by the parliamentary press corps.
He also urged the press to always give comprehensive reportage.
To aid in the discharge of their work, the press corps also requested that they are given copies of the Standing Orders to enable them report accurately.
