The Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye has been sworn in for the second time, within a week, as the Acting President of the Republic of Ghana
The Speaker was first sworn in last Sunday January 21, 2018 when the president travelled to Liberia for the investiture of President George Weah.
Prof. Oquaye has once again been sworn in on Saturday, January 27, 2018 because President Akufo-Addo is out of the country scheduled to return on January 31.
President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has left the country for Ethiopia to participate in the 30th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
He is expected to also travel to South Africa to participate in the funeral of African music icon and activist Hugh Masekela.
Already, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is on medical leave in the United Kingsom.
The swearing in of the Speaker of Parliament is in accordance with Article 60(11 and 12) of the 1992 Constitution.
But the minority in Parliament wants the president to reduce the foreign travels and delegate some of his appointees to represent him.
