World Boxing Organization (WBO) African Champion, Braimah Kamoko, has reached an agreement with the Management of the Box Office Promotions to settle his debt which led to the revocation of his licence.

The Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) revoked the professional licence of the Ghanaian boxer Kamako, popularly known as Bukom Banku, for his refusal to pay GHS17,000 to Box Office.

GBA on Thursday, after it’s Disciplinary Committee meeting announced the decision of the revocation of the licence as a result of breach of contract with the Box Office Promotions.

Bukom Banku failed to honour a contract he had with Box Office Promotions for a rematch with Bastie

Banku-Bastie first bout

Bastie Samir vowed to stop ‘talkative’ Bukom Banku and he did in front of a huge crowd at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, October 21, 2017.

In a non-title fight scheduled for 12 rounds, Bastie produced the performance of his career to end Bukom’s undefeated record by stopping him in the Seventh round.

Rematch

An agreement was reached between Bastie Samir and Bukom Banku for a rematch on June 30, 2018.

The two cruiser weight boxers appended their signatures on the rematch contract on Thursday, March 15, 2018.

The two boxers were therefore ready to slug it out again after their first fight in October 2017.

Moment after the signing of the contract, both boxers took GHS17,000 each as portions of their entitlements after the bout but Banku has refused to honour his side of the agreement.

Bukom Banku has therefore been ordered to pay GHS17,000 to the CEO of Box Office Promotions, Alex Ntiamoah.

The Box Office Promotions CEO has also been granted special permission to seek relief from the courts if the boxer fails to pay the amount owed.

Speaking in an interview on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa Sport on Monday hosted by Ateng Appau Papin, the CEO of the Box Office Promotions said Banku promised to pay the amount about six months ago but he failed.

“We called him over 6 months ago and he promised paying the money after he fought last year in Kwahu because the money he got was more than what he would pay to us, but he failed”.

He stated further, “he promised again after winning his fight to pay. When he got the fight in UK, he wanted me to give him a letter so we did an MOU that when he return he will pay but he did not”.

When he was hauled before the GBA disciplinary committee, Mr. Ntiamoah said, Bokum Banku asked for two weeks but “Thursday was a month”.

According to the boxing promoter Bastie is ready to fight but Banku is postponing without any medical report indicating he is not fit.

He noted that three days ago, he had a call from someone close to Bukom Banku and an agreement has been reached for the settlement of the issue.

“We agreed that at the end of November, they will pay 2/3 of the money in the subsequent month, the rest would be paid”.
