Cases of coronavirus in Ghana is steadily rising as the country records yet another two cases in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, bringing the national tally to 11 in a week.
The new cases were confirmed by the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) and announced by health officials Thursday afternoon, barely seven hours after two cases were announced.
The latest two cases involve a 59-year-old Ghanaian woman, resident in the United Kingdom who recently returned to Ghana and a 61-year-old Lebanese male trader resident in Kumasi.
Health officials said the woman reported to a private hospital in Kumasi where she lives, with the history of fever with a temperature of 39.1 ℃, general malaise, cough and runny nose.
“Her condition was suspected to be COVID-19. Sample was subsequently collected and sent to KCCR and the report was received this early morning as positive for COVID-19,” the Ghana Health Service announced this afternoon.
The Labanese was said to have felt unwell and reported to a health facility with fever where his temperature was checked and was as high as 39.4 ℃. He also had cough. His blood sample eventually tested positive for COVID-19, health officials said.
“Both case patients are being managed in isolation and responding to treatment,” officials stated.
Two earlier cases
Earlier Thursday morning, officials announced two cases in the Greater Accra region involving two Ghanaians who recently returned to Ghana from the UK and the United Arab Emerates.
One of them, 56-year-old man was said to returned to Ghana from the UK about a week ago while the other the, a 33-year-old was said to have attended a conference in United Arab Emirates.
