The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted person in connection with five high-profile corruption investigations.
The cases include alleged financial misconduct related to the controversial National Cathedral construction and the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) dealings with Strategic Mobilization Ghana Ltd (SML) and two other undisclosed matters.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that Ofori-Atta must return to Ghana immediately to face questioning.
He warned that failure to comply would result in further measures being taken to compel his return.
Mr. Agyebeng dismissed claims that Ofori-Atta had left the country for medical treatment, insisting that the former minister must cooperate with the ongoing investigations.
He also refuted reports that OSP officials had raided Ofori-Atta’s residence on Tuesday, February 11, alleging instead that the raid was staged by the former minister himself in an attempt to mislead the public and discredit the investigations.
“The fugitive’s name is Kenneth Ofori-Atta,” Agyebeng stated, emphasizing that the former minister is being investigated for causing financial loss to the state through several transactions.
The OSP’s declaration marks a significant development in the fight against corruption, signaling an intensified effort to hold public officials accountable for alleged financial mismanagement.
