Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed that the fate of his Minister of Finance and cousin, Ken Ofori-Atta, regarding the charge of corruption and corruption-related offences by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is of “considerable” concern to him.
He, however, stressed that he will not seek, in any way, to interfere with the course of rule of law.
“It is true that the fate of Mr Ofori-Atta is of considerable concern to the former President because after all apart from Mr Ofori-Atta being his cousin, more importantly, he was the Minister for Finance in both the governments of his mandate,” a statement issued by the Office of the Former President on Tuesday, December 16 said.
“But that concern does not extend to wanting to interfere with the rule of law.”
The statement was a rejoinder to a Herald newspaper publication, suggesting that the fifth President of the Fourth Republic is considering approaching his predecessor-successor, John Dramani Mahama, over the OSP suit against Mr Ofori-Atta.
The Office of Mr Akufo-Addo stressed that the said publication is “utterly false”.
“It is a total fabrication by the supposed source.”
The Office clarified that former President Akufo-Addo “has neither contemplated such a consideration not expressly or impliedly made any such request or representation to President John Dramani Mahama, his agent(s) or assign(s)”.
