Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has called for urgent changes within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party prepares for its upcoming flagbearer race.
Speaking in a televised discussion with broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said he was not opposed to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on a personal level but argued that the party should not elect him if it hopes to rebuild and regain electoral strength. He described the decision as critical to the NPP’s future, insisting that a different leadership pathway was needed.
The former minister also criticised the party’s national executives, saying their continued presence undermines efforts to reform the NPP. He argued that both the executives and their perceived backers should step aside to allow credible leadership to emerge.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said such changes were “very urgent” and maintained that, with new leadership, the NPP could position itself to win the 2028 general elections.
