Mahama remains honest & unblemished like Jane – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency Sam Nartey George says the compatibility between former president John Dramani Mahama and Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will be unparalleled as the two are honest and have unblemished record in public service.

He said the commentary that heralded the nomination of Mr Mahama, then Bole Bamboi Member of Parliament, in 2008 is similar to what Prof Opoku-Agyemang is receiving, indicating that both have been touted as honest, transparent and unblemished.

Sam George stated these on The Key points on TV3/3FM on Saturday, July 11, 2020.

The leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday named his former Education Minister as his running mate for the December 7 polls.

Many have congratulated Prof. Opoku-Agyemang as she becomes the first woman a major political party has picked as its Vice Presidential Candidate.

But her record as minister of state has come under attack from opponents, who claim she comes with baggage from an administration headed by Mr Mahama.

This NDC lawmaker Sam George disputes.

“At the Ministry of Education, I was fortunate to have one way or the other worked with her when I was in the Office of the Presidency as a Communications Specialist and she was at the Ministry of Education and when it came to time for us to put together or do assessment of ministries, she put forward the achievement of her ministry.

“In fact, her ministry put together about 247- or 267-page booklet that highlights her achievement in that ministry.”

The Ningo-Prampram MP said teacher absenteeism dropped drastically in basic schools under the watch of Prof Opoku-Agyemang.

“Anybody who understands education will tell you that teacher absenteeism is one of the biggest problems that we faced with the quality of education.”

‘Unblemished record’

Asked if Prof Opoku-Agyemang’s “unblemished” political background is to complement Mr Mahama’s, Sam George said the former president also has an “unblemished” record.

“When you look at our flagbearer, he has got an unblemished record when it comes to this. In the first four years, the key policy framework or agenda was infrastructural development [and] infrastructural development was going to be the spur for economic development because you need that structure for economic growth to happen, so when you look at his track record in four years, you’ve seen unprecedented infrastructure development.

“So, that is an unblemished record. When it comes to integrity, when it comes to honesty, when it comes to decency, nobody will take that away from [former] President Mahama.

“In fact when he was nominated in 2008 by the late Prof Mills, may God rest his soul, I mean the commentary across the board and all political parties was that Mr Mahama was a very decent man, a very honest man. He still remains that decent and honest man.

“He is a man that will not insult his opponents, he is a man that will not thrown unnecessary jabs at his opponents and doesn’t engage in your regular politics. So this simply a compatibility issue.”
