as  NHIS announces continuation of Free Dialysis Program

In a bid to provide accessible healthcare for all, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced that the Free Dialysis program under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will remain operational until the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund is fully established.

Under the leadership of the Hon. Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh MP, a dedicated seven-member team has been appointed to oversee the effective implementation of this initiative. This move comes as part of the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, also known as the Mahama Cares initiative, spearheaded by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

The Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund aims to cover the healthcare expenses of individuals battling chronic diseases such as kidney failure requiring dialysis, cancer, and heart diseases. This commitment is in line with the NHIA’s goal to ensure that quality healthcare remains affordable and accessible to all citizens, particularly those in need of dialysis treatment.

“We remain dedicated to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition once the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund is fully operational,” stated Pupe Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive of the NHIA.

The NHIA appreciates the continued support and collaboration of healthcare providers and beneficiaries as they strive to enhance healthcare services across Ghana. For any inquiries or assistance, individuals are encouraged to reach out to the NHIA Call Center at 0302-74-6447.

With the ongoing commitment to improving healthcare delivery, the NHIS Free Dialysis program stands as a beacon of hope for patients in need of critical treatment until the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund is fully ready to take over and provide comprehensive care for those in need.
