A-Plus (L) has three days to render an unqualified apology or else the Ablekuma West MP (R) will take legal action against him

Minister of Communications Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has given musician Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, up till Friday to retract and apologise for a Facebook post or face her in court.

In a letter written on Mrs Owusu-Ekuful’s behalf by her solicitors Safo & Marfo @ Law, A-Plus is to render the unqualified apology “in the same medium and prominence in the manner that your libelous publication was done”.

On Wednesday, May 23, a day after President Nana Akufo-Addo asked the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi, A-Plus took to Facebook to write, among others, that “Kwesi Nyantakyi is only being sacrificed to cover up the 89/178 million dollars GVG Kelni stinking scandal”.

He accused the Communications Minister of engaging in some “shady” deals through the National Communication Authority (NCA).

“We are instructed to notify you that our client has not involved herself in any corrupt or shady deal at the Communications Ministry,” the letter dated Tuesday, May 29, 2018 stated.

“We are instructed to notify you that our client takes serious view of your defamatory publication on Facebook and would not hesitate to commence legal action against you if the said publication is not retracted on or before Friday, 1st June, 2018.

“We are also instructed to notify you to render unqualified apology in the same medium and prominence in the manner that your libelous publication was done.

“Please be informed that if you fail to retract and apologise to our client on or before Friday, 1st June, 2018, we shall proceed to court to vindicate our client’s rights without any further recourse to you.”
