A source within government has dismissed reports making rounds that the Power Distribution Services (PBS) Ghana Limited, whose contract to handle assets of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was suspended, has been cleared of wrongdoing. Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has stated it would implement recommendations of the Otumfuo Committee regarding the conversion of some three male halls into unisex halls. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the Chancellor of KNUST, constituted a committee last year to investigate violent happenings at the university. A 20-year-old architectural engineering student of the Central University, David Gifat Ampiaw, has emerged the topmost winner of the maiden IFC Students Architectural Design Competition organized by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited has been exonerated following a 30-day investigation by government. The concession agreement between PDS and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was suspended on Tuesday, July 30 by government due to “fundamental and material breaches”. According to government, PDS failed to provide demand guarantees for such an agreement. A full-scale investigation was, therefore, launched into the deal with ECG returning to operations. A petition by former Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof Mawutor Avoke and other dismissed staff of the school, has been handed to the newly constituted Governing Council for consideration and action. Prof Avoke, who has been fighting his reinstatement, on August 22 presented a petition to the Education Minister, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, raising issues about how he and other staff were either dismissed or removed from office. The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has declared indefinite strike to push for the payment of the salary arrears of their members, which they claim, has been in arrears for three years. President of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonu, also raised concerns about delays in reinstating teachers who have completed their study leave, something he blamed on the human resources management information systems (HRMIS).
