Singer R. Kelly has missed a court hearing, with prosecutors claiming he “refused transport” from jail. The R&B star was due at a pre-trial hearing for his sex abuse case in Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday. Kelly’s lawyer said it was “not 100% true” that the singer had refused transport, but explained that “moving Mr Kelly is a large undertaking”. The singer is currently facing several state and federal charges of sexual abuse in the US, which he denies. The Bank of Ghana says it has completed the clean-up of the banking sector which started in August, 2017. The clean-up started with the revocation of licenses of UT Bank and Capital Bank with their assets handed over to GCB Bank. The major shake-up of the sector was, however, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, when five banks viz uniBank, Beige Bank, Royal Bank, Construction Bank and Sovereign Bank were consolidated into the Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited. University of Ghana workers have directed the university’s management to cease its dealings with the government towards the migration of public tertiary institutions onto the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS). Government through the Controller and Accountant General is seeking to get all public tertiary institutions onto GIFMIS by the end of August to among others, ensure comprehensiveness and transparency in public financial management. The good old days of Ghanaian storytelling would be re-lived on August 31 when the Bureau of Ghana Languages, holds ‘Ananse sɛm Asi soo…!’ as part of the 17th Ghana International Book Fair.
