The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced it will commence a mop-up exercise for the Ghana Card registration in the Volta and Greater Accra regions after it fell short of meeting its target. The Authority said it was not in a position to discriminate against any Ghanaian for any political reason and will “not in any way by our action and inaction try to exclude some people”. Government says it has spent a whopping 198,200,000 cedis in paying allowances of trainee nurses in public institutions across the country from September last year to June this year. Each trainee nurse, the government said, received 400 cedis every 10 months in each academic year to support their academic and clinical work. Seventy teachers within the Kwahu East municipality of the Eastern Region have received full scholarship from the Bryan Acheampong Foundation (BAF) to undertake postgraduate courses at the Presbyterian University College. The beneficiaries of the 429,000-cedi scholarship package have taught for at least 10 years. The Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, has denied rumours that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been scrapped. He said the junior high school curriculum is yet to be reviewed. He made this known on Thursday, August 15 when he addressed journalists on some developments in the education sector.
