Hundreds of workers were paid to transcribe voice recordings of Facebook users, it has emerged. Facebook is the latest company to confirm it has used third-party workers to do such work, following Google, Apple, Microsoft and Amazon. The practice had been halted “more than a week ago”, Facebook said. Workers were given audio of people’s conversations but were not told how it was obtained, according to Bloomberg, which was first to report the news. A new World Bank report has revealed innovative technologies, new administrative developments and the expansion of financial access points have helped transform Ghana into Africa’s fastest-growing mobile money market. The “Enhancing Financial Inclusion” report, released by the Bank in June, highlighted mobile money’s role in improving broader financial access in the country. Per the Global Findex Database of the World Bank, Ghanaian adults with a registered financial account increased from 41% to 58% between 2014 and 2017. US President Donald Trump has suggested a “personal meeting” with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss the political crisis engulfing Hong Kong. In a tweet Mr Trump said he had “ZERO doubt” that Mr Xi could “humanely solve the Hong Kong problem”. He also tied the protests to a US trade deal with Beijing, in the face of ongoing trade tensions. “Of course China wants to make a deal. Let them work humanely with Hong Kong first!” he tweeted. The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended the GH¢10 insurance deductions to make way for the policy to be regularized. The suspension will be in August only with deductions set to resume in September for only teachers interested in the scheme, which offers a life cover of GH¢18,000 in case of death or permanent disability. Some teachers had expressed disagreement with the reintroduction of the scheme in July and descended heavily on the Service for not informing them before effecting deductions. Director General of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Ghana Police Service Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah has said she will not resign from her position over the three Takoradi kidnapped girls case. Her response comes on the back of calls by some Ghanaians for her to resign over the ‘unprofessional’ manner in which she has handled the case involving the three girls.
