The Chief Executive Officer of gold dealership company Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, has been released from police custody after meeting bail requirements. This comes on the back of the variation of his bail conditions by the circuit court on Tuesday. Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Ernest Addison has said the clean-up exercise carried out within the banking sector in 2017 is not done. He indicates that until persons involved in violating one law or the other are prosecuted, the reforms which saw some banks fold up will not be complete. “Until we finish with the judiciary process, I think that the cleanup is not completely done.” The steps taken by the Central Bank to sanitize the banking sector resulted in the closure of certain distressed banks. Six officers of the Border Patrols Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service in the Upper West Region have reportedly turned down a GHȻ25,000 bribe and arrested two trucks loaded with bags of smuggled fertilizer meant for government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme. A total of 1,950 bags were retrieved from the trucks, which were allegedly to neighboring Burkina Faso through Fielmo in the Sissala West District. Work at the Takoradi Flour Mills has ceased following a misunderstanding between the workers and management. The workers have for the past one month been agitating for the removal of their expatriate General Manager Thierry Loupiac. The workers have accused Mr. Loupiac of gross disrespect and unruly behavior towards them. They claim that the Frenchman will without any provocation spew unprintable words on them.
