A non-governmental organisation, Mawuvio Outreach Programme (MOP), is providing 200 under privileged children at Ayikumah and its environs in the Greater Accra region with free education and skills training. The beneficiaries, who are mostly orphaned and disadvantaged children, have been receiving free boarding education from kindergarten to Junior High School. MOP, which has a Ghana Education Service accreditation to operate a government approved school. Aside the free education, each of the beneficiaries is being provided free food, uniforms, shoes and educational materials as well as employable skills training. The Convention People’s Party (CPP) says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) cannot absolve itself of any blame in the institution of August 4 as Founders’ Day in honour of the founding fathers of Ghana. Seventeen remand prison inmates at the Koforidua Central Prison, in the Eastern region have been discharged through the Justice for All programme. The inmates, most of whom have been on remand for a long period of time gained their freedom after the judges had applications accepted. Facebook plans to rebrand Instagram and WhatsApp so users know they’re from the social network, a move that highlights how the company is exerting more control over its acquisitions. Parliament on Friday passed the reviewed Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) Act 682. The amended Act specifies the percentage of charges to be used as source of money for the National Meteorological Fund and for related purposes. The Ghana Meteorological Agency Act, 2004 (Act 682) was passed by Parliament in 2004. The Act provided for the establishment of the Ghana Meteorological Agency under the Ministry of Communications to replace the Meteorological Services Department set-up under the civil services as a department responsible for providing weather forecast for the activities related to agriculture, marine, civil aviation and mitigation of natural disaster.
