Former President, Jerry John Rawlings has partnered Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Forestry Commission for one week tree planting exercise in parts of Accra to commemorate this year’s June 4 Anniversary. The United Nations has appointed Mrs. Charlotte Osei as an International Elections Commissioner to Afghanistan, as the South Asian country prepares to hold crucial presidential polls in September 2019. Mrs. Osei’s appointment was confirmed by a presidential decree issued by the President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani. Power Distribution Services (PDS) has dismissed earlier media reports that it waived over GH¢100 million of the debt owed the company by residents of Krobo Odumase in the Eastern Region. The company, in a statement, explained the downward review of the debt from GH¢195,725,500.29 to GH¢84,625,624.87 was as a result of a “data cleansing and reconciliation” process it embarked upon. There was unrest in the area last week as the residents clashed with PDS, claiming they were being overbilled by the power company. The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) is urging government to install closed-circuit television (CCTV), if possible, in basic schools across the country to tighten their security situation.
