The ongoing end of semester examination of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) was Tuesday evening disrupted by a confusion between management of the university and students. Hackers were able to remotely install surveillance software on phones and other devices using a major vulnerability in messaging app WhatsApp, it has been confirmed. WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, said the attack targeted a “select number” of users, and was orchestrated by “an advanced cyber actor”. A fix was rolled out on Friday. The attack was developed by Israeli security firm NSO Group, according to a report in the Financial Times. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has demolished more than 50 structures on its land at Damfa in the Adentan Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. The seven-hour exercise was done in the presence of armed police officers. The Head of Programmes for the Africa Centre for Security Counter Terrorism, Sulley Ibrahim, has warned that the importation of 1,575 guns poses a far more security threat than perceived. A consignment of handguns and gauge pump action guns were cleared at the Tema Port but seized last week, an incident which whistleblowers initially suspected was illegal.
