The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) is pleading with the governing council of the University of Education Winneba to reinstate some 23 staff, including Prof Mawutor Avoke, who were sacked as vice chancellor. According to UTAG, the reinstatement of these staff who were dismissed, suspended and demoted, will “contribute to bringing about normalcy” to the university which has since last week Friday been closed down following students protests that turned violent. Healthcare delivery at the 90-year-old Takoradi Hospital in the Western Region is seriously being undermined by obsolete, rusty and nonfunctioning equipment as well as lack of essential logistics.
