Graduate teachers across the country say they are not civil servants and will therefore not close from school at 4:30pm. According to the National Graduate Teachers Association (NAGRAT), its employer, the Ghana Education Service, has employed subtle ways to “unilaterally extend the instructional hours of teachers”. Sixty-six people have been killed in a passenger plane crash in Iran, airline company officials say. The Aseman Airlines plane, en route from Tehran to the south-western city of Yasuj, came down in the Zagros mountains of central Iran. The Red Crescent has deployed a search and rescue team to the site near the city of Semirom in Isfahan province. The plane left Tehran in at 05:00 local time (01:30 GMT) and disappeared from radar later. Two persons, who posed as safety officers of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and allegedly extorted money from fuel station owners in Agona Swedru, have been arrested. According to the Agona Swedru District Police Command, the two – 53 year-old Laura Winifred Ntow and Evans Fynn, 34 – had been going round fuel stations in the area under the pretext of conducting safety audit. A 25-year-old taxi driver, Francis Atobo, who was hired at Winneba by the two suspects for the operation has also been arrested. The vice chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe has been arrested in connection with an investigation into the awarding of a doctorate to former first lady Grace Mugabe. Levi Nyagura was detained by the country’s anti-corruption agency, to be charged with abuse of office. Mrs Mugabe was awarded a PhD just months after enrolling in 2014, despite it usually taking years to complete.
