The first advice a friend gave me when I told her I wanted to marry was; “Jojoe, women are not good for you. God would have created a woman for himself if women were that good to live with.” Does she have a point? Well, I don’t know. I didn’t take her advice anyway. It was early 2013. A year before I got married. The latest revelation of slave trade and dehumanizing treatment meted out to black Africans in Libya has caused former President Jerry John Rawlings to be downhearted. The maltreatment captured on videos as well as widely circulated photographs has received universal condemnations. The former Ghanaian leader recalled how the late Muammar Gaddafi of Libya showed respect to other Africans. “And I say so with emphasis because whatever faults Gaddafi had, blacks were treated as equals in Libya than in most Arab countries,” Mr. Rawlings said in a short statement to condemn the attacks in Libya. Titled “In support of our brothers…
Majority of Ghanaians demand stiff punishment for corrupt public officials, including jail time, restitution of stolen funds, and public shaming, according to a new Afrobarometer survey. Findings show widespread popular perceptions of corruption in both government and private-sector leadership, with the police and judges most widely seen as corrupt. But public approval of the government’s efforts to combat corruption has increased dramatically since 2014, after more than a decade of decline. These findings provide solid backing for government and reformers seeking to strengthen laws and their enforcement in the fight against corruption. The findings are being released a few weeks…

Yet only around 5 per cent of these cases were reported to the Fisheries Commission, and even fewer cases (around 1 per cent of the total) resulted in compensation…
