A lecturer at the University of Ghana is demanding disciplinary action against a police officer who allegedly slapped him during a misunderstanding Sunday night at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra. Dr. Kobby Mensah, who is a marketing lecturer, claims the officer, Wilson Oku, in an apparent show of power, slapped him during a misunderstanding between him and some police personnel over parking duration at the Airport drop off zone. The lecturer said he had gone to the airport at about 7:30pm to drop off a research colleague who was travelling to the United Kingdom. According to Dr. Mensah, he…
The only survivor of the Binbinni canoe disaster, Abdullai Abuba, wants the National Disaster Management Organization (Nadmo) to support Binbinni and other communities along the river banks with life jackets. Though he accepts the adventure that surrounded the death of four others, three of whom his siblings, was bizarre, he believes they would all have survived if they had life jackets. Abdulai Abuba together with his siblings Tahiru Yidana, Abudu Haruna, Abdul-Samed Abdulai, and one Rauf Tanko wanted to go to Wungu for the Jummah prayers on Friday, September 15 by crossing the Binbinni River. Tanko, apparently a novice in canoe operation,…
Outspoken politician, Dr. Tony Aidoo, says former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed the country’s accountability test. In a yet-to-be televised episode of TV3’s Hot Issues, the former Ghana’s Ambassador to the Netherlands observed the Mahama administration failed to counteract the numerous corrupt scandals against his government. This, he argued, contributed to the party’s defeat in the December 2016 elections, which he said, was more of a communication strategy fight. For him, the GYEEDA and SADA scandals among others blinded the electorates to the various infrastructural development of the Mahama administration because the NDC communicators could…
At least 25 people have been killed in a series of clashes between armed groups over one week in escalating violence in the Central African Republic (CAR). The UN said on Tuesday that thousands of people continue to be uprooted and forced to flee for their lives in resurgent fighting between rival factions in various parts of the country. In its weekly report released on Tuesday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that preliminary estimates indicate at least 10 people were killed and 50 others wounded in fighting between rival factions in the central town…
Member of Parliament for Zabzugu, Alhassan Umar, has suggested to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to seek parliamentary approval if he wants his family members to be remembered in the history of Ghana. President Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party come under criticisms in recent time in what is believed to be their bid to place Joseph Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah above Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the struggle for Ghana’s independence. The latest decision by the President to change September 21 (Nkrumah’s birthday) from being Founder’s Day to Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day and make August 4 Founders Day has reinforced…
The analysis of Ghana’s economy as presented by vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the run-up to the 2016 elections were defective, Dr Tony Aidoo has said. He said Dr Bawumia failed to consider some key elements in comparing the eight-year administration of the John Kufuor and that of the Mills-Mahama era, noting the communication team of the NDC failed the test of challenging that. “What I missed was the inability of the NDC communication team to bring out the facts so as to challenge the comparative analysis that Dr Bawumia was making. Dr Bawumia was the Achilles heel of…

In his new book, ‘The Last Testament’, photographer Jonas Bendiksen documented men who believe they are second coming of Christ. Over the course of two years, he travelled around the world to meet seven different men who publicly claim they are the son of God returned to earth. He tells Dan Damon about his personal project to find out about these modern Messiahs and their followers.

Whoever the artist who styles himself as Tilapia is, it is obvious he’s got talent and is most certainly making quite an impact. Like many Ghanaians, I found his latest cartoon on Free SHS particularly fascinating and even more I am intrigued by the quintessential Ghanaian sense of humor and wit that accompanies it’s further circulation. And by the way, as for the pikin inno fine koraaaa…lol! Kudos Tilapia. Now the Free SHS frenzy continues. NPP members appear to gloat and bask in the euphoria of Free SHS even though this is not exactly what they promised Ghanaians but we…
