The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says August 4 would henceforth be celebrated in Ghana as Founders Day. Parliament would therefore be proposed to make the day a statutory public holiday. An international non-governmental organization, Grace For Impact has embarked on a two-day medical outreach at Medie and Amasaman in the Ga West Municipality. The NGO in its effort to assist the Municipality, partnered with M & D Clinic to offer free health screening ranging from malaria, dental, eye and general health issues that affect livelihood in the Municipality. Scientists have developed a fast, paper-based test to diagnose tuberculosis that can be read with a smartphone, a technology that is increasingly available in emerging economies. Diagnosing tuberculosis (TB) early can allow patients to receive the medicine they need and also help prevent the disease from spreading. However, in resource-limited areas, equipment requirements and long wait times for results are obstacles to diagnosis and treatment. Headmasters sanctioned for allegedly flouting Ghana Education Service guidelines on Free SHS policy deserved the punishments because “they brought it upon themselves”, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi has asserted. According to the MP, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, the affected headmasters were aware of the guidelines and yet went ahead to breach it. Actor Harry Dean Stanton, known for his roles in films like The Godfather II, Alien and Cool Hand Luke, has died of natural causes at the age of 91.
