The Universal Merchant Bank, UMB, has posted a pre-tax profit of GH¢27.4 million for the 2016 financial year representing a 462 per cent year-on-year growth. Ghana’s Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has petitioned the country’s president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to withdraw the nomination of deputy minister-designate for agriculture, George Best, also known as George Kwame Oduro. A letter from the Bureau to the President dated March 23, 2017 stated Mr Oduro aka Kay, who was on May 19, 2008 mentioned as a principal suspect in a cocaine case in Geneva, Switzerland where he is wanted. The Ministry of Energy and the National Petroleum Authority have commended Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) for its commitment in promoting local content in the oil and gas sector. The commendations were made at the commissioning of the company’s 13.5-million litre Marine Gas Oil Storage Facility at the Takoradi Port in Takoradi. The Facility, solely financed by GOIL, will enable the Ghanaian-owned oil giant to bunker ocean- going vessels that berth at the Takoradi Port. A 32-year-old mother, Dorcas Adoma Anim, is seeking justice after she was allegedly assaulted by two Egyptians in her shop at Dawhenya in the Ningo Prampram district of the Greater Accra region. Dorcas, who sells second hand clothes for a living, was assaulted on February 3, following a misunderstanding between her and the Egyptians. According to her, she acted as an intermediary in a business transaction for the two Egyptians. However, she conceded that payment for the business delayed, resulting in a misunderstanding. The International Court of Arbitration has acknowledged receipt of a request from embattled Ghanaian businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome to arbitrate in the controversial GHC51 million judgement debt scandal . The Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Alexis Nang-Beifubah, says it will take disease researchers at least a week to determine the particular type of meningitis that killed four students of the Kumasi Academy. Autopsy report by health authorities in Kumasi showed the four students died of meningitis contrary to speculation that it was caused by food poison, something that caused disturbances in the school. Authorities of the Kumasi Academy Senior High School (KUMACAS) have suspended all school activities and sent all the students home. This decision by the authorities follows the death of some four students of the school which has been attributed to meningitis. Authorities of the school say the students are ‘distressed’ and may not psychologically sound to undertake the end of term exam. The school further indicated that the burial of three of the deceased students would take place over the coming weekend.
