The Western Regional House of Chiefs is demanding the immediate reinstatement of Omanhene of the Sefwi Anhwianso, Ogyeahohor Yaw Gyebi II who was been removed as the chairman of the Governance and Development Committee of the National House of Chiefs (NHC). Thieves have ripped out a heavy metal safe containing an undisclosed amount of money from a concrete wall within the administration block of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital in the Central Region. The incident was suspected to have happened Monday night. Workers reported to work Tuesday morning to find three offices within the administration block broken into and the safe removed from a wall in the accountant’s office and taken away together with a revenue bag. A female accountant and her assistant, who allegedly misappropriated 551,732.64 cedis from the account of a private hospital in Takoradi, have been put before court. Linda Nana Donkor and Magdalene Kublenu Walagyo were arraigned Tuesday on charges of conspiracy to steal, stealing and falsification of electronic documents. Prosecutors say both Donkor and her assistant Walagyo, are in charge of collecting monies from clients of UQ Hospital and depositing same into the hospital’s main account. The Supreme Court has in a unanimous decision ruled that courts are to sit on weekends and public holidays to deal with issues that affect personal liberty. A private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, in September 2016 dragged the Attorney General to the apex court demanding a declaration that portions of the Holidays Act that bars the courts from dealing with cases that affect personal liberty are unconstitutional.
