Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is facing growing criticism over the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Frank Abrokwah, as Deputy Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Concerns have been raised about DCOP Abrokwah’s track record, with critics pointing to his tenure as Ashanti Regional Police Commander, during which he was accused of failing to maintain order in several instances.

His most recent controversy, which reportedly led to his transfer to Police Headquarters in Accra, was the chaos surrounding the Council of State elections in the region.

Members of the public and security analysts, have questioned whether DCOP Abrokwah is the right choice for such a critical role within the CID.

They argue that his perceived inefficiency as a regional commander raises doubts about his ability to effectively oversee the investigative wing of the Ghana Police Service.

While, acknowledging the IGP’s authority in making appointments, critics warn that any failures in the CID under DCOP Abrokwah’s leadership, could ultimately reflect poorly on the IGP himself, who has made DCOP/Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director-General of CID.

In a related development, Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, has been reassigned to the Ministry of the Interior as a Technical Adviser to the Minister, just hours after being named Director-General of Research & Planning at the Ghana Police Service.

Her sudden reassignment was confirmed in a letter from the Presidency, signed by Callistus Mahama, the Secretary to the President.

The letter stated: “In line with this directive, you are hereby reassigned from your current position to the Ministry of the Interior, where you will serve as the Technical Adviser to the Honourable Minister. This reassignment takes immediate effect, and you are expected to liaise with the relevant authorities to ensure a smooth transition into your new role.”

The Presidency, also praised COP Addo-Danquah’s contributions to the nation and expressed confidence that her expertise and commitment would be valuable in her new capacity.

Her reassignment is part of a broader restructuring within the Ghana Police Service, led by IGP Yohuno, as he seeks to strengthen leadership and operational efficiency.

COP Addo-Danquah, previously served as the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), where she spearheaded anti-corruption efforts. She also held the position of Director-General of CID, overseeing high-profile investigations.

In her new role at the Interior Ministry, she is expected to provide strategic advice on security policies and law enforcement reforms.

The reshuffling of senior police officials, has ignited a debate regarding the IGP’s leadership decisions.

Observers are closely monitoring how these changes will influence the overall effectiveness of the Ghana Police Service.

The IGP, reshuffled several Regional Commanders and members of the Police Board less than a week after assuming office, following the replacement of Dr George Akuffo Dampare, including the following postings:

1.      1COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Danquah is now Director-General/R&P.
