The Sekondi/ Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has allocated GH₵ 74,000 to assist the metro education directorate to conduct two different mock examinations for 2017/ 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in public schools within the metropolis.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive of STMA, Anthony K. K. Sam at a press briefing, noted that the gesture was as a result of the fact that candidates from his area have been performing abysmally in previous examinations.
The assembly’s action is geared towards preparing the candidates adequately for the pending external examinations in June.
Anthony Sam was confident the candidates from STMA can attain better grades going forward.
In support of the assembly, the five parliamentarians in the metropolis, Joseph Cudjoe, Joe Ghartey, Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah, Agyapa Mercer and Joe Mensah are set to pay GH₵ 10, 000 each to help conduct the two mock exams.
However, the about 6000 candidates from the public schools in the metropolis who will be sitting for the exams will each pay GH₵ 5.00, amounting to GH₵ 30,000 to complement the assembly’s efforts.
Meanwhile, the city mayor has urged parents to ensure that their wards stay away from funerals, game centers and other activities that largely distract them from concentrating on their books.
