The Member of Parliament for Ada, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, is rallying support from persons whose lives were impacted one way or the other by the late Ghanaian forward, Christian Atsu, to establish something in his memory.

The MP is proposing a sports complex in Christian Atsu’s hometown, in the Greater Accra Region.

Madam Doyoe Cudjoe made the call in Parliament on Thursday when she read a statement on the floor to eulogise the former Black Star player.

“It will be in the right place therefore to honour his memory with a statue and a sports complex in his hometown, Ada.

“I therefore use this opportunity to call on all and sundry as well as all whose wish it is to preserve the memory of our legend to come to Ada and make that happen,” the MP advocated.

Christian Atsu was among thousands of people who died in the Turkey earthquake on February 6. He was found two weeks under the rubble after the deadly earthquake of 7.8 magnitude.

Atsu joined the Turkish top-flight side Hatayspor in September 2022 and scored the winning goal in a Super Lig match on 5 February.

He also played for both Chelsea and Newcastle during his time in the English Premier League.

Madam Doyoe Cudjoe described Atsu as someone who had been a great source of inspiration to the youth, especially the youth of Ada.

“Apart from being a great footballer, he was known also for his philanthropist activities and for his compassion to humanity,” she recalled.

Christian Atsu, 31, would be laid to rest in his hometown, Dogobome, in the Greater Accra Region on Friday, March 17, 2023.

Prior to the burial, Atsu’s body will be displayed at the Forecourt of the State House for filing past and last respects. The family has requested that attendees wear black attire for the occasion.

The thanksgiving service will also take place at the Forecourt of the State House on the same day as the burial.

On Sunday, March 19, 2023, Atsu’s family will meet to discuss other important matters relating to the late footballer.

EULOGY IN HONOUR OF THE LATE CHRISTIAN ATSU TSWASAM

Delivered By Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, Member of Parliament For Ada

Mr. Speaker, I rise to give a brief eulogy in memory of Chrisstian Atsu Tswasam, the former Black Stars Player who passed away as a result of an earthquake in Turkey.

Mr. Speaker, the icy hands of death has struck again. It has deprived the whole of Ghana, Africa and the rest of the world, especially the football fraternity of a great legend of the game. It has most especially deprived the whole of the Ada State, home and abroad a bragging right of a representation in world football.

A terrible storm has swept our State of one of our most illustrious legends. It has taken away our son and brother, Christian Atsu Tswasam. The most treasured oak tree of Ada and Ghana has fallen, and we have been robbed of the shade it provides, especially as a source of motivation for the youth.

Christiaan Atsu has been a great source of inspiration to the youth, especially the youth of Ada. Apart from being a great footballer, he was known also for his philanthropist activities and for his compassion to humanity.

It will be in the right place therefore to honour his memory with a statue and a sports complex in his hometown, Ada. I therefore use this opportunity to call on all and sundry as well as all whose wish it is to preserve the memory of our legend to come to Ada and make that happen.

I take this opportunity too to express my sincere condolences to the family, his wife and children, the entire Ada State and to the football fraternity.

May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace!

ATSU, OKƐ NYƐƐMI SAMINYA!

YA WƆ NGƐ HEJƆMI MI!

I thank you Mr. Speaker for the opportunity.

Thank you!
