Prominent voices within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have rallied behind the appointment of Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte as the Acting Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA).

Advocates for Prof. Kpessa-Whyte, led by former Constituency Chairman of Ayawaso Central, Ebenezer Arkutu, in congratulating him for the appointment, highlighted his exceptional track record of loyalty, competence, and leadership as compelling reasons for his inclusion in the Mahama-led government.

They have also commended President John Dramani Mahama for rewarding loyalty and hard work in the appointment of Prof. Kpessa-Whyte.

The appointment, effective Thursday, January 23, 2025, is part of President Mahama’s efforts to assemble a team of seasoned professionals to drive national progress.

His appointment as the Acting Director-General of SIGA marks a significant step in the President’s efforts to strengthen governance and operational efficiency within Ghana’s State-Owned Enterprises.

As an advocate of good corporate governance, Prof. Kpessa-Whyte’s leadership is anticipated to bolster adherence to corporate governance practices and enhance the socio-economic contributions of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and Joint Venture Companies such as COCOBOD, GNPC, BOST, Ghana Gas, ECG, and VRA, among several others.

Prof. Kpessa-Whyte is celebrated as a symbol of unyielding dedication to the NDC and a paragon of incorruptible corporate leadership. His tenure as Executive Director of the National Service Secretariat (NSS) left an indelible mark, with his commitment to grassroots engagement and progressive governance cementing his reputation as a transformative leader.

Chairman Arkutu noted that during his time at the NSS, Prof. Kpessa-Whyte spearheaded initiatives that elevated the institution’s relevance and impact. His efforts resonated with the youth, inspiring a new generation of party loyalists and reinforcing the NDC’s grassroots mobilization strategy.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, he asserted that Prof. Kpessa-Whyte’s fearless party activism has endeared him to many within the NDC. As a lecturer at the University of Ghana, he boldly championed the party’s ideals, inspiring student movements across university campuses nationwide. His efforts played a pivotal role in galvanizing youth support for the NDC ahead of the critical 2024 elections.

Prof. Kpessa-Whyte, an accomplished policy and governance expert, brings a wealth of experience to the helm of SIGA. Known for his exceptional track record in public sector governance and corporate leadership, he is tasked with overseeing and ensuring the efficient and profitable operations of Specified Entities under the authority’s purview.

According to Mr. Arkutu, the new SIGA boss’ competence, leadership, and loyalty give compelling reasons for his inclusion in the Mahama-led government. His extensive experience in public sector governance and proven record of innovation make him a fitting candidate to help deliver President Mahama’s vision for Ghana.

Prof. Kpessa-Whyte’s appointment is expected to bring a renewed sense of purpose and direction to SIGA. With his visionary leadership and ability to navigate complex corporate and political landscapes, he is poised to make significant contributions toward achieving SIGA’s mission and President Mahama’s legacy agenda.
