Director of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Agnes Teye-Cudjoe has said the examinations body will go ahead with its plan of conducting the examination for final year students in spite of some schools recording Covid-19 cases.
She told Alfred Ocansey on the Sunrise morning show on 3FM Wednesday that the Council is in constant engagement with the Ghana Education Service (GES) on the impending examinations.
Asked whether WAEC will suspend the examinations this year, she said: “We will cross the bridge when we get there”.
Following the directive of President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo that schools should reopen to final year students to enable them write their exit exams, all final year SHS and Form Two Gold Track students returned to school on Monday, June 22.
But some schools reported suspected cases of Covid-19.
At the Accra Girls Senior High School, for instance, six students were diagnosed positive of the virus.
Mrs Teye-Cudjoe said: “The GES is also monitoring the situation. If there is the need for any different action to be taken, the two bodies will engage and then a decision will be taken on the matter but as at now we are following through with our plans with the conduct of the exams
“When the need arises the best decision in the interest if everybody will be taken. We will continue our collaboration with the GES and then….The situation is still being looked at. GES has its protocols in place, we will cross the bridge when we get there.”
