Five takeaways from Ghana Premier League Match Day 9

A Theatre of Dreams indeed for Dawu, Hearts of Oak’s miserable form ahead of the big game against Asante Kotoko and how the once mighty Aduana Stars have fallen.

Michael Oti Adjei has the major talking point from the weekend Ghana Premier League games.

Dawu is indeed Theater of Dreams for Dreams FC

Dreams FC are making the Theatre of Dreams a Waterloo for clubs

New Ghana Premier League boys Dreams FC know how to work the hype machine but they are not just hype. They are having an absolutely blistering season. On Monday they beat Aduana Stars 2-0 in another game that highlighted the poor form of the champions on the road with goals from Patrick Arthur and Issah Yakubu. It is also a game that underlined Dreams FC’s superb form at home and drove them up to second level on points with AshantiGold having played a game more. Their home form is superb too. Four wins out of five games, one draw with five goals scored. They really are rattling the established order.

Hearts issues

Hearts and Kotoko clash on Sunday

This is exactly the build-up to a massive week that Accra Hearts of Oak would not have wanted. They face their bitter rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday but their confidence is in shreds with results consistently going their way. On Sunday, they required a second half goal from Patrick Razak to draw 1-1 at home to Bechem United. It leaves the technical team with a lot of work to do before they face Kotoko. The Phobians have managed just a single point out of a possible nine and look like a side in perpetual rebuilding mode. They are three points behind their arch-rivals and a further six points behind leaders AshantiGold.

Kotoko rising

Kotoko’s season seems to be a ride in the extremes. One moment they are not scoring enough, grinding out results, then the next they are almost flawless as they proved away in Wa against Wa All Stars.   Amos Frimpong and Frederick Boateng scored the goals for the Porcupine Warriors to them in touch with leaders AshantiGold and ease the pressure on Paa kwasi Fabian who only last week was reminding everyone that he is no magician.  Boateng in particular has come good at just the right time. The goal against All Stars was his third in four games and provides goal-shy Kotoko with a viable option upfront.

Wa All Stars demise this season

Wa All Stars won the League two seasons ago

Wa All Stars are experiencing quiet a slump for a team that were league champions only two seasons ago.  The side owned by Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantekyi are bottom of the league two points worse off than Liberty Professionals just above them having played two games more. The club is paying the price for virtually shipping out an entire team and the numbers has told on them. They have lost six of their nine games, scored just four times and can’t seem to keep them out. That is relegation form.

Inter Allies’ away problems

Inter Allies is a curious case. They have the second best home record in the Ghana Premier League and the worst away record in the league too.  Their 0-1 loss at AshantiGold on Saturday was their fifth loss in their fifth game on the road.  Kenichi Yatsuhashi’s side have not scored a single goal on those travels too and have conceded ten, an average of two every game. At home, they are markedly different. Four games, four wins, seven goals scored, none conceded. Something must be wrong somewhere.
