Staff of the Komenda College of Education have bemoaned the allocation of programmes to the College by the Ministry of Education.
According to them, the College and others across the country would be without students if the Ministry goes ahead with the current allocation plan.
This was disclosed at a news conference on Wednesday.
Addressing the media, the worried teachers of the Komenda College called on the Ministry of Education and the National Council for Tertiary Education to intervene to avert the collapse of the College by maintaining the running of the General Programme.
The General Programme is apparently the major one for the Komenda College since its establishment.
The staff disclosed that the current reforms will see the College running programmes like Visual Arts, Home Economics, Agriculture, Maths and Science and Bachelor in Education (Teaching) without the most sought after by applicants, the General Programme.
They also claim the new move will also have a negative effect on women enrolment for the College as most prefer the General Programme.
They recommended that Komenda College and all other colleges be allowed to offer general programs of their choice to maintain or better enrollment to train more teachers for the many basic schools.
They also called on the Education Ministry, the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), the Conference of Principals (PRINCOF) and other stakeholders to intervene to address the challenge which could affect the 2018/2019 academic year.
