A National Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Abubarkari Abdul-Rahman, popularly known as Alhaji Short, has officially served notice he will not be part of the party’s July executive elections.
“After long introspection and consideration, I believe the interest of the party will be best served by my withdrawal,” he stated in a release on Thursday.
Alhaji Short was one of four aspirants for the national chairmanship.
Acting National Chairman Freddie Blay and two-time failed aspirant Stephen Ayensu Ntim are the frontrunners.
Dr Richard Amoako Baah is regarded an outsider who may pull a surprise.
The fourth person, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman, who is the Upper West Region Chairman of the NPP, was regarded as one who could split votes.
“To all and sundry, I apologise for any inconvenience my decision have caused you,” the release signed by his Campaign Manager, Kwabena Marfo, said.
The elections are expected to be held on Saturday, July 7 in the Eastern Region capital of Koforidua.
Until Alhaji Short’s withdrawal, 34 members of the party had filed to contest the polls.
