Anas lawyer speaks: Question Ken Agyapong over murder of Anas’ partner

[L-R] Anas and Kennedy Agyapong
Lawyer for Anas Aremeyaw Anas says Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Ken Ohene Agyapong, has some questions to answer in the drive-by killing of Anas’ key partner in Accra late Wednesday.

Accordingly, he wants authorities handling the case to pick him up for questioning as part of investigations into what some people suspect to be a contract killing.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale who was a key member of Anas’ private investigations team, Tiger Eye PI, was shot dead at Madina while driving home

He was said to have been shot three times in the chest and neck at close range just few metres to his home, allegedly by two unknown assailants who were riding on a motorbike.

  • Anas’ key partner shot dead in Madina

Ahmed was one of Tiger Eye journalists whose photographs Ken Agyapong circulated in his ‘who watches the watchman’ anti-Anas video documentary, in which he urged people to beat him up for a handsome reward.

Commenting on the incident, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, who is the lawyer for Anas called on security authorities to pick the MP up for questioning over his “reckless conduct” of exposing the Ahmed to death.

He said inasmuch as he was not placing the murder of the journalist at the doorstep of the MP, he insisted Mr. Agyapong ought to be picked up for questioning for his action relating to Anas’ team member in the aftermath of the Number 12 investigative documentary that exposed corruption in Ghana’s football administration.

“I refuse to even mention his name. I’m saying that he engaged in a reckless conduct by exposing the young man to death by putting his picture on his NET2 TV and inviting the whole world to beat him up,” Adjabeng said in an interview on Joy FM Thursday.

Though the lawyer said he is not in anyway linking the MP to the murder of Ahmed, he said it was him who put the deceased picture on television and encouraged people to beat him up and that he was ready to compensate whoever did that.

“I’m not saying that a sitting member of parliament asked people to go kill him that is not what I am saying,” he stated, but added “he was the one who went on TV and put his picture out there, invited the public to beat him up, now he’s been shot dead some months later. He should be asked questions”.

“A finger that can be pointed at him is that he should be called to explain why he did what he did and if a few months later a young man has been killed in such circumstances, he has questions to answer; it is not an accusation, but he’s the one who invited the world to beat him up, he has been killed now,” he added.

According to the lawyer, Mr. Agyapong who lodged a complaint against Anas at the General Legal Council last year in the aftermath of the Number 12 investigative documentary, tried to get the Council force Anas to remove his mask when he appeared before it.

But the lawyer explained that they had to put cogent and convincing argument before the Council members, noting it was within that period that a Saudi journalist was murdered and so their argument “weighed heavily” on the council members.

Asked whether Mr. Agyapong’s apparent ‘inciting” could be linked to the killing of the journalists he responded by saying slapping someone could kill the person “depending on the person’s constitution”

For him, the conduct of the MP is not something that would be tolerated in any serious jurisdiction, stating “no serious jurisdiction will watch this and let it past”.

“In the ordinary circumstance of mankind, if you put someone’s picture out there and you invite the public to beat him up and a few months later he’s killed, you should be asked questions,” he added

He argued Ken Agyapong who has been trumpeting that no one in this country is above the law “cannot also be above the law,” hence he should be questioned in this murder case.

“It is decidedly uncomfortably, very decidedly uncomfortable and it just kills your blood to know that a sitting member of parliament… put a certain man’s picture out there, invited the whole world to beat him up and he will pay for it,” he expressed.
