Pressure group, Occupy Ghana has expressed disgust at the partisan comments made by Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Mr George Ayisi Boateng.
Mr. Ayisi Boateng had told Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network (TESCON) of NPP in Kumasi that, members of the NPP party are his priority in his dealings while at his duty post and that, it is through efforts by loyalists that saw the party recapture power so it will be the right thing to do.
But Occupy Ghana in a press statement described his comments as discriminatory and pitche partisan interest above the national interest.
The group expressed shock over the diplomat’s “unrepentant” expression and lack of remorse in the face of massive expressions of disappointment at his comments.
According to the group, Mr. Ayisi Boateng’s comments run contrary to the NPP’s manifesto theme “An Agenda for Change. Creating Prosperity & Equal Opportunities for All”.
The group therefore condemns the diplomat’s comments asking him to render an unqualified apology to the people of Ghana, and retract his comment.
Occupy Ghana further calls on the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to remove Mr. Ayisi Boateng from office as High Commissioner if he fails to apologize.
“We call on the NPP and the government to denounce the statement and demand a full retraction and apology. If he should fail or refuse to do that, then we would respectfully and humbly call on the President to remove Mr Ayisi Boateng from office as High Commissioner.”
The group also condemns statements made by the Acting NPP Chairman, Mr. Freddie Blay that suggested support for Mr. Ayisi Boateng’s position.
