Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal will leave at the end of the season. A home loss to Southampton, coupled with Huddersfield’s draw at Chelsea, means Swansea are almost certain to be relegated from the Premier League. The Swans must beat Stoke while Saints lose to Manchester City with a 10-goal swing in Sunday’s final round of games to secure an unlikely survival. Carvalhal is out of contract at the end of the season but had been in talks to remain at the Liberty Stadium. However, it is understood the Swansea board has decided not to renew Carvalhal’s contract after a…

The family continue to request “vital” privacy as Ferguson enters the next stage of his recovery. He was last seen in public at Old Trafford last month when he presented outgoing Arsenal boss Arsene…
For 17 years the memories of the May 9th Stadium Disaster has lived with people in different ways. The images of 127 bodies piled up after violence broke out at a league game between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko has accompanied the darkest tale in Ghana football. Protesting what they claimed was an offside call from referee Jacob Wilson Sey and his assistant, Kotoko fans ripped off seats and threw them on the tartan track. The police responded with tear gas and the ensuing stampede led to what has become Africa’s worst stadium disaster. Seventeen years on the center…

LPG operators in Kumasi have warned government to discontinue with the implementation of the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) policy or face their wrath. The operators want government to rather institute safety measures in regulating their activities instead of taking over 7,000 of them out of business. Speaking to 3news.com, spokesperson for the Ghana LPG Operators Association Nanaba Collins Osei Tutu said the CRM policy is designed to deprive them of their economic rights. “An estimated number of 7,000 jobs will be lost if the CRM policy is implemented,” he said. “The CRM is directly inconsistent with the government’s policy to support…
Former Fifa president Sepp Blatter has reiterated his view that World Cups should be staged in one country rather than co-hosted by multiple nations. Blatter, 82, said football’s world governing body is now interested in co-hosted World Cups because it wants to increase the tournament to 48 teams. A decision on the hosts of the 2026 World Cup will be made on 13 June. United States, Canada and Mexico have made a joint bid while Morocco has also bid to host the event. “To have three big countries together… they have proven they can host it alone, so why are…
A potential new cure for baldness has been discovered using a drug originally intended to treat osteoporosis. Researchers found the drug had a dramatic effect on hair follicles in the lab, stimulating them to grow. It contains a compound which targets a protein that acts as a brake on hair growth and plays a role in baldness. Project leader Dr Nathan Hawkshaw told the BBC a clinical trial would be needed to see if the treatment was effective and safe in people. Only two drugs are currently available to treat balding (androgenetic alopecia): minoxidil, for men and women finasteride, for…

Former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has led a barrage of condemnation that has greeted US President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) signed in 2015 curbed Iran’s nuclear activities following the lifting of sanctions imposed by the UN, US and the EU. But on Tuesday, President Trump announced his country’s withdrawal from the deal, calling it “an embarrassment” to him “as a citizen”. Mr Annan, who is the Chair of The Elders, was not happy with the decision by the US President. “I deeply regret President Trump’s…
US President Donald Trump says he will withdraw the US from an Obama-era nuclear agreement with Iran. Calling it “decaying and rotten”, he said the deal was “an embarrassment” to him “as a citizen”. Going against advice from European allies, he said he would reimpose economic sanctions that were waived when the deal was signed in 2015. In response, Iran said it was preparing to restart uranium enrichment, key for making both nuclear energy and weapons.
