I committed a series of errors in Anas’ exposé – Nyantakyi admits in apology to all

President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi has apologized “unreservedly” to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, ministers and deputy ministers “for indiscretion in associating them with the private conversations on the video”.

The apology was contained in his resignation to the Executive Committee of the Association on Friday.

Mr Nyantakyi has been under fire in recent times after investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas showed his latest piece to President Akufo-Addo.

The president immediately reported Mr Nyantakyi to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, who have since been investigating the issue.

They are yet to charge the football administrator, though.

After the investigative documentary film was screened to the public on Wednesday and Thursday, pressure was mounted on Mr Nyantakyi to resign.

First, government took immediate steps to dissolve the GFA.

On Friday, FIFA’s Ethics Committee slapped a 90-day provisional ban on Mr Nyantakyi as per articles 83 and 84 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

Later in the day, Mr Nyantakyi tendered in his resignation.

“It stemmed out of the controversies generated by investigative report of Tiger Eye PI,” the First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) stated.

“In the said report, I committed a series of errors of indiscretion.

“I gravely associated the highest office of the land – the presidency – with private discussions I had with ‘scammers’ who deceived me into thinking they were genuine persons interested in investing in our country.”

He consequently apologized “unreservedly to the father of the Nation, H.E. Nana Akufo Addo, H.E. the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Hon. Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State for indiscretion in associating them with the private conversations on the video.”

Mr Nyantakyi admitted that he never met any government official prior to or subsequent to the meeting with the said investors.

“I take sole and personal responsibility for the proceedings on the video.”

But he insists the apology is not an admission of wrongdoing as captured in the documentary film.

“This is by no means an admission of wrong doing for issues on the video”

He also apologized to family, friends, colleagues and to the generality of the Ghanaian public “for the disappointment my indiscretion has caused them”.
