President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assented to the landmark Right to Information (RTI) Act that is expected to be the game-changer in the country’s governance, particularly with respect to information flow. While the passage of the Act was hailed by many, particularly civil society groups and media professionals, government announced a deferment of its implementation until January next year due to financial constraints. A group calling itself Free Media Vanguard has given the National Communication Authority (NCA) a week ultimatum to restore radio stations which were taken off-air by the regulator over alleged authorization infractions. The group Tuesday morning hit the streets of Accra in protest of what they described as a suppression of media freedom  in Ghana by the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party government. The Ghana Gas Company Limited has initiated a test run of the pipeline system installed to transport dense gas from the western region to the Tema enclave to fuel electricity plants in the area. Engineers have since May 16 been testing the safety and efficiency of the system with a flow of 37 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) of gas daily. A prosecution witness in the murder case of Major Maxwell Mahama has told the Accra High Court that the deceased body was discovered totally “naked with the head damaged and body partly burnt”.
