A rainstorm has rocked hit the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region killing an 11 year-old class three pupil of the Domenase D/A primary school. Frederick Kofi Tweneboah died on the spot when a building he was sleeping in collapsed on him Saturday. Others sustained injuries in the disaster which affected over 500 houses and displaced a total of 1,915 people in communities including Manso-Nkwanta, Domenase, Manso-Atwere and Brofoyedu. A giant billboard thanking President Nana Akufo-Addo for his role in ending the over decade old chieftaincy dispute in Dagbon in the Northern Region has popped up in Accra. Ghana’ s Black Satellites failed to shine on Wednesday when they went 2-0 down to Senegal in Group B of the ongoing Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. There has been a huge drop in the number of candidates who have registered to write this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for Private Candidates from that of last year. Statistics made available to the Junior Graphic by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) indicated that a total of 2,505 candidates had registered to write the 2019 examination as against the 11,815 candidates who wrote the exam last year, showing a difference of 9,310. The world is in the middle of what is likely to be the warmest 10 years since records began in 1850, says the Met Office. It’s forecasting that temperatures for each of the next five years are likely to be at or above 1C compared to pre-industrial levels. There’s also a small chance that one of the next five years will see global temperatures temporarily go above 1.5C. That’s seen as a critical threshold for climate change.
