Former President John Dramani Mahama says the problems currently facing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are from the top hierarchy and not the grassroots of the party. Addressing party supporters at Larabanga in the Northern Region during their weekly branch meeting, the former President observed the NDC has a solid grassroots but same cannot be said of the top hierarchy. “I want to make an observation. Our woes are not at the grassroots but at the top hierarchy because I see a solid grassroots support with members so enthusiastic” he stated. He underscored the need for the party to resolve…
Prolific Ghanaian playwright and poet, Chief Moomen, has written a letter to the Chief Executive of Zylofon Media, Nana Appiah Mensah, requesting for GHC5 million to create the biggest play that will revolutionise the country’s arts and tourism industry. While lauding the business tycoon for his unsurpassed investments in the country’s arts industry, Chief Moomen said if given the GHC5 million, he would create the biggest theatre production in the world about the legendary King of the Mali Empire, Mansa Musa. “Give me 5 million cedis( Just a little over 1 million dollars). And let me create some magic that…
Introduction The teacher, under no circumstance, should be linked to any form of misconduct, be it sexual misconduct or whatever. Aside of being a dispenser of knowledge, the teacher performs and must be seen to have been performing the role of a leader, counsellor and a motivator. Our Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, in a message to teachers at last year’s National Best Teacher and Best School Awards in Koforidua, said, “We want teachers to become professionally competent with the right values and ethics, confident, practically oriented, learner-centred facilitators of learning. This is the kind of teachers needed for…
Former President John Dramani Mahama has stepped in to resolve the grievances of two elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region. The two elders of NDC, Aljahi Alhassanbila and Kasulyili Na, Naa Abdulai Yakubu are said to be “aggrieved” but party officials have remained tightlipped on the details. Mr. Mahama on Wednesday met with the two elders separately in their respective homes, together with some party members, at which the former President urged them to let go all the issues which are said to have arisen out of events preceding and after the 2016 elections. Facebook’s $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp sounds smarter and smarter. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on the Q4 2017 earnings call today that WhatsApp now has 1.5 billion users and sees 60 billion messages sent per day. That’s compared to 1.3 billion monthly users and 1 billion daily active users in July. The massive growth makes Facebook’s choice to pay more than $19 billion to acquire WhatsApp look prescient. At the time in 2014, WhatsApp had just 450 million monthly active users and 315 million daily active users. In a slight to Snapchat, Zuckerberg also noted that Instagram and WhatsApp are the No. 1 and…
Despite worries about Russia and that passive News Feed scrolling hurts us, Facebook beat expectations again in its Q4 2017 earnings report. Facebook now has 1.4 billion daily users, up 2.18% compared to growing 3.8% to 1.37 billion users in Q3. That’s a sizeable slow down, and the lowest quarter-over-quarter percentage daily user growth ever reported by the company. That could be because CEO Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook made changes including showing fewer viral videos “that reduced time spent on Facebook by roughly 50 million hours every day.” That equates to 2.14 minutes per daily user per day, or 5% of total time spent on Facebook. The…
We rely on expensive computer programs to edit photos and video, deal with office work, and protect our computers from malware. But they’re not our only options. Often, commercial studios will offer the most basic versions of their products free of charge. In other cases, volunteers who believe that software should be free will develop open-source alternatives. Between them, you can find free programs to cover just about any computing task. However, not all free apps are created equal. We’ve narrowed down the plethora of options to highlight 10 of the finest free alternatives to pricey computer programs. 1. Office…
The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) is threatening to protest the proposed one per cent levy on the salaries of formal sector workers to fund the country’s national health insurance scheme. Formal sector workers currently pay 2.5 per cent of their 17.5 per cent contribution from the tier one pension fund to run the NHIS scheme, but the Management of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) says that is inadequate. In May last year, when management of the NHIA appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, it proposed a one per cent levy to be slapped on alcohol…
[L-R] Finance Minister, Mr. Ofori-Atta will on Wednesday present on behalf of President Akufo-Addo, the 2018 Budget to Parliament[/caption] Ghana’s performance on budget transparency, has aptly been described as stagnant, following its very little progress made over the past two years, an Open Budget survey (OBS) report has said. In 2017, Ghana scored 50 out of 100 in the Open Budget Index (OBI), and this represents a fall in scores in comparison with a score of 51 in 2015, the OBS research revealed. “This however does not mean government has done so poor in making budget information available to citizens,…
The FBI has publicly challenged a push by Republican lawmakers to release a controversial memo which purports to show anti-Trump bias at the agency. “We have grave concerns about the material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy,” the FBI said in a statement. The White House has reportedly indicated it could be published later on Thursday. Democrats say the memo is an attempt to discredit the FBI-led Russia inquiry. The White House has to approve the top-secret memo’s release. “It will be released here pretty quick, I think, and the whole world can see it,” White House…
