The Minerals Commission has asked Ghanaian small-scale miners to form alliances that will see them become a large-scale operator in the country’s mining industry. Fire has destroyed parts of the Abuakwa-Dadease market in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region. About 70 structures were razed down Friday by the inferno destroying items worth thousands of Ghana cedis. It was a nightmare for some traders at the market as they watched the fire destroy their wares and sums of money. The fire is reported to have started around 11pm on Thursday from one of the shops stocked with firecrackers. A security man who destroyed four air-conditioners belonging to the State for non-payment of his salaries by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has been fined GH¢960 or in default, spend four months in jail. The Ghana-Togo Solidarity Movement, a group formed by Ghanaians to support the fight for freedom for citizens of Togo, is set to hold its solidarity walk on Saturday, December 30. The Association of Small Scale Miners has welcomed the president’s decision to subject its members to a vetting process before they are allowed to mine. Nine people have been killed in two attacks on Coptic Christians in Helwan district, south of Cairo, Egypt’s interior ministry has said. Six civilians and a policeman died when a gunman tried to storm a church but was intercepted and arrested, it said.
