At least 12 people have been killed and four others critically injured in a fire at an apartment building in the Bronx borough of New York. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the fire was the deadliest in the city for at least 25 years. The victims include a one-year-old child, he added. Management of the Ghana Prisons Service has said officers at various prisons across the country are on high alert to guard inmates against any possible jailbreak during this festive period. According to the Chief Public Relations Officer of the Service, Superintendent Vitalis Ayeh, jailbreaks often occur during festive seasons like Christmas where some inmates feel the need to be home to enjoy the best of the season. Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid has conceded that uproars such as the alleged over-bloated budget of the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives are good for protecting the public purse.
