Zimbabwe’s new President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed as one of his deputies in the ruling party the leader of the military takeover that led to ex-president Robert Mugabe’s overthrow. Constantino Chiwenga recently retired as army chief, prompting speculation that he would receive a political post. The appointment is seen as a first step towards becoming vice-president. The Takoradi District Court at Market Circle has remanded into police custody, Detective Corporal Adjei Shaibu on suspicion of shooting to death an 18 year old boy and injuring another, 22. Fourteen (14) suspected illegal miners have been arrested and various mining equipment seized in special operation mounted in the Amansie West District during the Christmas. It was jointly carried out by a combined team of security personnel in the district and the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners. Three people are reported to have died instantly on Boxing Day at Adjakaa, a suburb of Enchi in the Western Region after a motor rider with two pillion riders ran into a stationary truck. The Ghana Police Service has begun piloting an e-policing service within the Accra and Tema policing regions to help improve efficiency and daily monitoring. The wholly home-grown technology was developed by Vas-intel, Stratum and the University of Ghana in response to the police transformation agenda.
