Human rights lawyer Francis-Xavier Sosu says he is ready to quit the practice of law in Ghana, stating he cannot stand the level of injustice and arbitrariness of the General Legal Council. Suspended legal practitioner, Francis Xavier Sosu, has descended heavily on Ghana’s General Legal Council, describing the body as one of the lawless institutions in the country that has been victimizing lawyers. Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress, Fred Agbenyo, has questioned the preparedness of government agencies in responding to emergencies on the back of the health crisis at the Kumasi Academy that led to the death of four students in a week. The Ghana Police Service says it will deploy over 14,000 personnel for the 2017 Christmas duties nationwide. Additionally, 1,200 personnel from various units at the national headquarters are to engage in special operations during the period. Several of the proposed amendments to the constitution of the New Patriotic Party have been rejected by an ad hoc committee established by the party to critically examine the said proposals. The 10-member committee, chaired by the acting first Vice-Chairman of the party, Mr. F. F. Liberia’s Supreme Court has ruled that evidence of fraud during October’s first round of presidential elections was insufficient to merit a re-run. This means the final round of voting between the two leading candidates – ex-footballer George Weah and Vice-President Joseph Boakai – can go ahead.
